SuperLega Playoffs – Quarterfinals heat up

The SuperLega Credem Banca quarterfinal series continued with dramatic Game 2 clashes that reshaped the playoff picture.

In the derby of the Via Emilia, Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza leveled the series against Valsa Group Modena with a 3-2 victory in front of their home crowd at the PalabancaSport. The match was decided by narrow margins, with Piacenza pushing harder in attack and managing the decisive moments better. Opposite Alessandro Bovolenta led the scoring with 23 points, while Yoandy Leal Gutiérrez contributed 17 points and earned the MVP award thanks to his efficiency in attack and impact from the service line.

For Modena, Mandiraci scored 22 points, but the team struggled to replicate the serving pressure that had been decisive in Game 1, finishing with 21 service errors and only five aces.

The result brought the series back to balance after Modena had taken the first match.

Perugia and Civitanova move closer to the semifinals

In Monza, Sir Susa Vim Perugia confirmed its strength by winning another tight battle against Vero Volley Monza. The match once again required a tie-break, with the Umbrian side showing greater composure in the decisive moments.

Perugia relied on the experience and scoring of Kamil Semeniuk, supported by strong performances from Russo and Ben Tara. Monza responded with an outstanding performance from Frascio, who delivered the best match of his career with 27 points, but it was not enough to prevent Perugia from taking a 2-0 lead in the series.

Meanwhile, Cucine Lube Civitanova continued its positive playoff run by defeating Itas Trentino again and moving within one win of the semifinals. Civitanova showed greater offensive continuity and controlled the crucial phases of the match, while Trento struggled to maintain rhythm in attack.

Verona completes another comeback

Another spectacular match involved Rana Verona and Allianz Milano. Milano started well and appeared to control the match, but Verona produced a remarkable comeback, eventually winning in five sets.

Despite a huge scoring performance by Ferre Reggers for Milano, Verona’s collective play proved decisive in the tie-break. The victory allowed Verona to move ahead in the series and confirmed the team’s ability to react under pressure.

Women’s A1 Playoffs – Conegliano’s comeback

In the Serie A1 Tigotà semifinals, Prosecco Doc A.Carraro Conegliano opened the series with a dramatic comeback against Igor Gorgonzola Novara, winning 3-2 after trailing by two sets.

The match changed momentum in the third set when Conegliano raised its level significantly, especially at the net. The defending champions dominated the blocking phase, finishing with 12 winning blocks against Novara’s 3, a key factor in turning the match around.

Individually, Isabelle Haak led the scoring with 25 points, while Novara relied heavily on Tolok, who finished as the match’s top scorer but received limited support from the outside hitters.

International news – Cicola appointed Hungary beach volleyball coach

Among the international developments, Italian coach Fosco Cicola, former professional beach volleyball player, was appointed as the new head coach of the Hungarian men’s national beach volleyball team.

Cicola brings more than twenty years of international experience and emphasized his motivation to work with young players and help them reach their potential as Hungary continues to develop its beach volleyball program.

In SuperLega, several quarterfinal matches were decided by tie-breaks, highlighting the balance between the teams. Perugia and Civitanova moved closer to the semifinals, while Piacenza and Modena remained locked in a tightly contested series.

On the women’s side, Conegliano’s comeback victory over Novara set the tone for what promises to be a highly competitive semifinal series.
