SuperLega: Laurenzano extends Trentino stay until 2029
Gabriele Laurenzano has signed a new three-year deal with Trentino Volley, keeping him at the club until 2029.
The 23-year-old libero has made 192 appearances since joining from Taranto in 2022, winning two Italian league titles and the 2024 Champions League. Now an established member of Italy’s national-team set-up, Laurenzano said staying had been an easy decision, pointing to the trust the club had placed in him since he arrived as a 19-year-old.
Faure’s return completes Trentino squad
Théo Faure has returned to Trento, giving head coach Marcelo Méndez his full 14-man squad for the first time this pre-season. The French opposite arrived on Monday after a week off following EuroVolley, where he won silver and was named the tournament’s best opposite.
Faure is expected to play in Wednesday’s friendly against Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel at the PalaRomare in Schio. The match starts at 19:00, with the fourth Trofeo Città di Schio at stake. Around 2,000 spectators are expected for the near-sell-out fixture, which will also see former Trentino opposite Martin Nemec on the Austrian bench.
Trentino open their league campaign away to Modena on 18 October.
Reggers set for Perugia debut against Suntory
Sir Perugia will have their full squad together for the first time at the OJI Cup on Wednesday and Thursday, when they face Japanese runners-up Suntory Sunbirds in two World Challenge Series matches.
New opposite Ferre Reggers is set to make his debut and will come up against his predecessor, Wassim Ben Tara. The Belgian, who joined after three seasons with Milano, began full training on Monday following his international commitments.
Angelo Lorenzetti’s side will compete as Sir Susa Scai Perugia domestically and Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia in international competition this season.
Italians abroad: Turkey leads the way in 59-player survey
A survey of Italian players abroad lists 59 athletes with overseas clubs for the 2026/27 season: 34 women and 25 men, spread across 25 destinations.
Turkey has the largest contingent with eight players, followed by Greece with seven and Japan with five. Together, those three countries account for 20 of the 59 players listed.
The group in Turkey includes Alessia Orro at Fenerbahçe Medicana, Ekaterina Antropova at Eczacıbaşı, Myriam Sylla at Galatasaray and Alice Degradi at Türk Hava Yolları.
Greece is home to four Italian women and three men, while Japan’s five-player contingent comprises Tommaso Rinaldi, Edoardo Caneschi, Camilla Mingardi, Josephine Obossa and Sylvia Nwakalor.
In Poland, Yuri Romanò has joined Projekt Warszawa, while Kamil Rychlicki is with Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie.
The wider picture stretches across Europe, Asia and the Americas, with the men playing in 15 destinations and the women in 16.
Beach volleyball: Bibione to host club championship finals
The Italian Volleyball Federation has published the regulations for the eighth Italian Beach Volleyball Club Championship, with the 2026/27 season running through the winter before concluding in Bibione on 4–6 June 2027.
Last season’s competition featured 1,050 tournaments and 1,700 players, figures the federation hopes to surpass this time around.
Club competition will continue into the summer with the new Italian Youth Club Championship. Its national finals are provisionally scheduled for the last week of August.
