SuperLega: Michieletto commits to Trentino as Perugia lift Oji Cup

Alessandro Michieletto has signed a contract extension with Trentino Volley until 2029, following Gabriele Laurenzano and captain Riccardo Sbertoli in committing his future to the club.

The Italy outside hitter supported Trentino from the stands before progressing through their youth system. He described the club as both home and family, while president Marcello Poli welcomed the renewal as another chapter in a story shared by the club, the city and the wider province.

Sir Susa Scai Perugia, meanwhile, secured the Oji Cup – World Challenge Series with a second successive victory over Suntory Sunbirds Osaka. After Wednesday’s 3-1 win, Angelo Lorenzetti’s side swept aside the Japanese visitors 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-14) to complete a convincing two-match success.

Giovanni Sanguinetti marked his Perugia debut with 13 points and the MVP award, while opposite Patrik Kollator led the scoring with 15. According to the club’s figures, Perugia finished with 77 per cent attacking efficiency, eight blocks and three aces.

Transfer news: Monviso pursue De Nardi, Cisterna complete middle-blocker line-up

Wash4Green Monviso Volley are working on a deal to bring in Giulia De Nardi from Igor Gorgonzola Novara following the Achilles tendon injury suffered by libero Manuela Ribechi in training on 6 October.

The move depends on Novara finding a replacement before releasing De Nardi. Arianna Gambini has been mentioned as one possible option.

Cisterna Volley have completed their middle-blocker line-up by signing Polish prospect Milosz Jan Wroblel. Born in 2006, the 2.05m newcomer joins Shikun Peng, Daniele Mazzone and Jacopo Tosti in Daniele Morato’s squad.

Women’s Serie A2: Bolzoni says €10,000 remains unpaid in Offanengo dispute

Former Volley Offanengo head coach Giorgio Bolzoni says he is still owed €10,000 under a €20,000 agreement after being told verbally in December 2025 that his contract had been terminated.

A federal tribunal ruled that the contract should have been honoured until its expiry, fined the club €500 and imposed a two-month suspension on former president Cristian Bressan.

The disciplinary ruling did not order payment, which remains a matter for the civil courts. It also referred to a guarantee lodged with the league to cover the outstanding sum, but that guarantee has not been called upon.

Bolzoni says he was also unable to obtain documents relating to the transfer of the sporting licence to Dragons Volleyball Offanengo, having been deemed a third party.

The available information does not establish any irregularity in the transfer or suggest that the new club sought to avoid previous debts. The case nevertheless presents an early test of transparency for the women’s league under new president Vito Cozzoli.

Stefano Condina, who remained general manager through the transition at Offanengo, has recently been appointed the league’s vice-president for Serie A2. He was not sanctioned in the Bolzoni proceedings.

Opening-round winners go head to head

On court, the second round gets under way with Cremonese against Altino on Saturday, followed by seven fixtures on Sunday.

Two matches bring together opening-round winners: Roma host Costa Volpino in a rematch of last season’s play-offs, while Monviso face Padova. Fasano begin their campaign against Offanengo after a first-round bye.

Federation news: Government clarifies access to school gyms

Allowing sports clubs to use school gyms does not, in itself, change the facilities’ designated use or jeopardise funding under Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, education undersecretary Paola Frassinetti has clarified.

Frassinetti was responding to Mauro Berruto during question time before the Chamber of Deputies’ Culture Committee. Berruto raised the issue after clubs reported that schools and facility owners were continuing to refuse access over concerns about recovery-plan funding.

Legislation passed in April allows local authorities, after consulting schools, to make gyms available when they are not required for curricular or approved extracurricular activities, subject to the conditions and exceptions set out in the law.

The Italian Volleyball Federation has also ordered a minute’s silence at all national, regional and local matches from 9 to 11 October in memory of former setter Stefania Corna, who died on Wednesday, aged 35, after a long illness.
